Is grappling with light today and trying to work out ways to explain to students who will find the subject hard at the moment. A couple of good sites that I have been working through for my own understanding are: http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/light/U12L2b.cfm and http://library.thinkquest.org/27356/p_index.htm and... another one I just lost! Grrr! I'm also going to attempt to up load some resources if I can remember how!

I have too much time on my hands...

I've attempted to make my own Guass Rifle... it works - but I want to add more magnets. I actually have 2 more, but have run out of ball-bearings for the moment. I'm hoping that the video here will work!

Here is my first attempt at creating a Wiki page... This is my second bit of geekyness today. My first was buying some lovely books which included Cosmos and Fermat's Last Theorem. I shall upload my thoughts on the books for your viewing pleasure (!) once I've read them.
Righto - some things that I like about physics:
1) It puzzles me. This means that it's challenging and is never something that I can take for granted.
2) It puzzles the kids... which means that they raise some cracking questions. They also seem to have more 'light bulb moments' in physics than the other subjects.
3) People think it's hard - therefore, if you teach it they automatically think you must be clever. Nice to have a little ego boost now and again!
That will do for my first attempt - the next installment will include some reviews on my books and also some Fermi puzzles that I will try and think up this summer to use next year.
